On 1 June 1813 HMS Shannon captured US Frigate Chesapeake off Boston. Captain James Lawrence, commanding Chesapeake, was mortally wounded during the battle. As he was carried below, he ordered “Tell the men to fire faster! Don’t give up the ship!”
